All Irelands 2012
The 2012 All Ireland Championships are now behind us. The Citywest Hotel & Conference Center provided an impressive backdrop to the event, in the home of An Coimisiún; Dublin, Ireland. 3,500 dancers converged on the Irish capital from more than 20 different countries across the globe. Eight days of intense competition, in a variety of age groups, saw the best dancers in the world compete for the oldest title in Irish dancing, champion of All Ireland.
The standard of dancing was higher than ever with breathtaking displays of natural talent, blended with the fruits of relentless hard work. The traditions of Irish step dancing merge with athleticism, increasingly intricate rhythm patterns and inventive choreography, keeping this cultural dance form alive, developing and ever moving forward. Audiences were kept on the edge of their seats with some nail bitingly close results, as the judges cast their votes to crown the 2012 champions.
An Coimisiún is blessed with countless willing volunteers who work many many hours to organise and stage this mammoth event. We receive tremendous financial support from our sponsors, all the while striving to keep Irish dance affordable and accessible for all of our families and children. We are very grateful to all the parents and dancers who made considerable sacrifice to be a part of Oireachtas Rince na hÉireann.
This was the final year Oireachtas Rince na hÉireann was held in its current format. A full twenty months will pass before the 2013 Oireachtas Rince na hÉireann, as the championships will move to a new date in October and a new competition (Oireachtas Rince Náisiúnta na hÉireann) will become the secondary World qualifying event for dancers from Ireland.
The 2013 Oireachtas Rince na hEireann will be a stand-alone prestigious competition. As we move forward, we will take with us the most valuable memories from 2012, that of the friendships with our fellow members of this tight knit global Irish dance community.
