Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall

World Championship - Glasgow Concert Hall, April 2010

The 40th Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne – World Irish Dancing Championships – will be held in Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall from March 28th to April 4th 2010.  This will be the second time the event has been held at the Royal Concert Hall and the third time the event has been held in Scotland.

The World Championship celebrates the beauty and athleticism of Irish Dance and the common Celtic Heritage that binds the peoples of Europe, the Americas, Africa and Australasia together. Most importantly, it is a gathering of an extended family of dancers, teachers, parents, officials, families and fans. The gathering promotes the means of continuing and elevating to new standards the skills and artistry that are the heartbeat of Irish Dance.

The Championships are truly a colourful festival, indeed an extravaganza, presenting all that is best in Irish Dancing through its International family.

It is estimated that in excess of 4,500 competitors will be in attendance, accompanied by up to 15,000 family members, teachers, friends and supporters. They will represent Irish Dance schools from some thirty two countries worldwide, each competitor having won the right to compete by qualifying at one of over thirty Regional Championships.

The Championship will commence at 8:00am on Sunday 28th March, with solo competitions for the youngest category of boys and girls aged 10. Competitions will continue for all age groups throughout the week culminating with the senior category on Sunday 4th April. Solo, Ceili, Figure and Dance Drama Championships will all be hotly contested. Tickets are available at the door on the day of competition and everyone will be warmly welcomed.
